Not sure how much this adds to the discussion, but I just wanted to say 
from the perspective of an inexperienced newcomer (I've learned bits and 
pieces about lojban for years now, but never truly dived in) that Wuzzy's 
'essay' email was in my opinion a really good introduction for me to what 
the distinction was, as someone who until now didn't even notice that 
there was a difference (I think I'd seen the word cmevla but never had my 
attention focused on what it really meant).
