Re: [lojban] Dictionary

2014-09-23 8:18 GMT+04:00 Pierre Abbat <phma@bezitopo.org>:
Some words, even though they have one meaning, have multiple translations. For
instance, "cfinyvra" means a certain kind of tool, which includes both crowbars
and nutpicks. So far jbovlaste can handle this.

Now consider "gear". There's a fu'ivla "engranaje" (which I think should have
at least three places). But first, second, and third gear, though they involve
gears in this sense, are "pamoi parbi" etc. (short for seltonparbi).

just a polysemy of "gear".
i intended {engranaje} for "toothed wheel", not for "gear mechanism" and not for "geartrain".

e.g. you could use {engranaxe} for the second, {engranaje gunma} for the third.

Then there are phrases and collocations. How do you say "switch gears" or
"change gears"
{selbasygau lo ca engranaxe}

? That should also be in the dictionary.
