[lojban] Re: Article about machine translation

Garden pathing: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/05/18/googles-new-artificial-intelligence-cant-understand-these-sentences-can-you/ (and this one)

Neural translation "improvements": Google Translate still translates "sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas sas" from Mongolian into English as "over the years for the rest of the ages."

How the "real" science uses Google Translate: https://transacl.org/ojs/index.php/tacl/article/download/821/174 (Lojban is one reference away from it)

If you want something more than those popular articles then I can only say that Lojban corpus of texts and Lojban itself are not very suitable for established ways of deploying machine transation tools, I'm still experimenting, the high-quality corpus (which is still needed) is slowly growing.

The following article might be of interest to the list, it touches upon the limitation of machine translation and the interactions between computers and language (note that it is a relatively long read):

The author is Douglas Hofstadter, the author of Gödel, Escher, Bach.
