Is there a flag, symbol or logo for Lojban? Yes. See the graphics subdirectory at www.lojban.org/files/graphics/ I think the viewable file is lojbo.gif, but there are also .bmp and .ico versions for Windoze users. >Lojban itself makes me want to engage in flights of fantasy about the people >who would speak such a language -- a la Tolkien. You could almost write a >novel inspired by the language. Do it! Do it! >Another thing that I'd love to see, and perhaps eventually write in Lojban, >is a major philosophical work. We do have a Philosophy Dept. professor as our organizations vice president, so you have an audience/advisor in such an effort. %^) >> All the more reason for others to chip in. What happened to those people who >> were considering reworking the textbook? While "real" books are limited by >> the financial constraints lojbab. describes, we can stick as much stuff on the >> web as people can write. > >I'd like to see a real "Teach Yourself Lojban" book. The book that's out >there is really good, but it's a reference, not really a tutorial. The draft textbook is more tutorial in nature, but very incomplete. >Also, of >course, a dictionary is necessary, and it should include common lujvo as >well as the gismu. Also, tapes and CD ROMs could be created to help people >learn the words. I don't think an "at cost" pricing model should be adopted >a priori. It may be that some profit will help move things along a lot >better, and in that case, I'd strongly suggest taking that approach. We are no longer developing new materials on an at-cost basis. But publishing requires deeper pockets than LLG has, and we need to sell many more books even at profit in order to get out of the hole. We could raise our direct mail price closer to the list price of $48 (which is what amazon.com charges), but even at that higher price, an additional $9 per book, we would likely need close to 200 sales to get out of debt. This should not stop people from writing materials for on-line use, which could eventually be published and/or put on CDROM. lojbab
