I tried an English version which also is pretty concise. I still am wondering if it is possible to create a Lojban poetical translation 
comparable and *less verbose* than mine.

Ueber die Berge verschlagen, 
haben Briefe mich nimmer erreicht. 
Winter und Fruehling hab ich ertragen. 
Nun, da die Heimat in Sicht, 
wird es mir bang; 
Ich wage nicht, 
die mir begegnen, zu fragen.
