As for a software for creating fonts: I - after many years - am again using Fontographer, a wonderful profi tool (but pretty 
expensive: about 1000.- Euro :-).
I'm working on creating/altering a Tengwar (Gandalf) etc. font for Lojban these weeks. Anyone interested? (different platforms/
TT/Postscript available).
