Uh... since when is <xu> an attitudinal?
It's not even in the same chapter of the reference grammar. It serves a
completely different purpose from attitudinals. Asking whether something is
true does not imply any opinion on the subject. Saying you hope it is
implies that you would be pleased to learn it was true.
