Didn't find the "zuo2 kou3 yu3" (left-eyed fish) in my sources: a pretty mo=
=3D=0D
dern word for "Flunder" seems to be something=20
pronounced like "ye4" (with the character composed by yu2 and ye4, the latt=
=3D=0D
er with the meaning of "a tablet/flat pieces of wood/a=20
slip/a leaf").
Another more common word for "Plattfisch" is "pi4 mu4 yu2" (about: pair-eye=
=3D=0D
d fish/neighbour-eyed fish). Have no opinion,=20
though, on which side is up... ;-)
Oh, wait a minute, here I found a bit on those fish (German and Latin):
Plattfische/Pleuronectidae:
Steinbutt/Scophtalmus maximus: left
Heilbutt/Hippoglossus hippoglossus: right
Scholle or Goldbutt/Pleuronectes platessa: (mostly) right
Kliesche/Pleuronectes limanda: right
Flunder/Pleuronectes flesus: right or left (!)
Seezunge/Solea solea: right
Rot- or Hundszunge/Cynoglossus cynoglossus: right

(These are all I found - no Polynesian "polgosu" or drata mlafi'e among the=
