I've never understood your objection to the p3 (as you know). You can dread
an event irrespetive of it being likely to happen (e.g. p3=0.9) or unlikely
to happen (e.g. p3=0.1). The dreading is about consequence not likelyhood.

Agreed, 'hopeless/desparate' was from a previous effort and shou;ld not
have been there.
I don't think nor- as this is not a scalar midpoint between hoping something
will happen and being indifferent. Wouldn't that be 'somewhat hopeful'?
