There were a few diabetics at jbonunsla, and a frightening event: la banseljaj
flew from the Islands of Langerhans and crash-landed on the couch. So I think
we ought to have a word for it. I suggested "satflib" for "diabetes", but Bob
countered that it could also apply to other conditions, such as hypoglycemia.
But there are also different types of diabetes. Should we have different words
for each? What do you suggest?
Diabetes is the failure of the pancreas to produce insulin. It's not a sugar failure. Or were you referring to the failure of the body to absorb glucose?
I decided to look up the etymology, and I definitely think we shouldn't use the source (basically "pisses too much").
I only know of two types of diabetes: the broken pancreas type (Type I), and the not responding properly type (Type II).
I suggest first figuring out a word for 'insulin", and then making a word for "insulin making failure disease" (Type I), and another for "insulin reaction failure disease" (Type II).
As for hypo-/hyper-glycemias, I'd go with (tol)du'eblusak[ta/terbi'a]
