There is no official mechanism in Lojban for making words
shorter, but I suppose that if {relxilma'e} or {relselxi'u} became
popular then {relxi} or {relse} could be created as new gismu
through usage. At this point this is mere speculation of course,
and this can't become a general rule for shortening words
because in other cases it could create ambiguities.
