Personally, since there must be a preceding pause before cmene UNLESS it is preceded by [la, lai, la'i, doi], taking out the exception (
i.e. UNLESS....) is a minor quibble, especially in view of the benefit gained by no longer disallowing the four mentioned within cmene.
