Hm. I think the English is equivalent to
-- The man who sold the car I saw
which yields the clearer Lojban

FWIW, because I try to never elide {ke'a}, I think I would render that:
-- { le prenu poi ke'a zvati le kumfa poi py zbasu ke'a cu masno }
A workaround for those who wish to avoid {ke'a xi re} presents itself readily in this case:
-- { le prenu be ne'i le kumfa poi py zbasu ke'a cu masno }
Nonetheless, it's good to have that {ke'a xi re} arrow in the quiver.
