So (object)?  I'm pretty sure I've seen that used a lot in the gismu definitions.

Is it possible to make it any more generic than that?  Is there no way to feel sorry for an event or a property?  I'm thinking not.

Isn't it also possible to feel sorry for a house that is about to be
demolished, for example? Anything we can project out emotions into
will do, I think.
