I've found that it helps me organize my thoughts: trying to express something in lojban requires you to go beyond the symbol and dig into the substance (mostly because you don't have an _expression_ already prepared, so you need to figure out what exactly it is that you want to say in the process of translating, since metaphors don't translate).

I've also noticed myself having thoughts that would be much nicer/cleaner/more precise if I could express them in lojban (but I'm not yet fluent enough).
