Re: [lojban-beginners] Using "ko'a" when not specified by goi? Or maybe "da"?
Hi,
When there isn't enough context to determine the referent of a
personal pronoun, a common practice appears to be to translate it with
ko'a-series, such as often occurs in Tatoeba. Given the context, we
could use ri-series, ti-series, lerfu strings or some appropriate
grammatical construction. Otherwise, ko'a is the best we can do, and
is enough for the purposes of Tatoeba.
In fact, it is quite appropriate. In Tatoeba sentences, these pronouns
are probably used more like placeholders than anything.
{da citka lo plise} means "someone ate the apple", which is quite different.
