Exactly to avoid any type of issue, I've asked explicit permission to the authors. Just for the records I had authors that did not gave me permission to redistribute the translation and I had to stop working on those.
However, if you are just translating the transcript (i.e. your not scanning the images replacing the original text with the lojban version) I think it would be perfectly fine to put it online.
That's the case for the Bernstein bears (no images). Alice is different as the copyright on the text and the images has expired.
Btw, what manga is it?
