Actually I always interpreted the line "Friends will be friends" in that song as "Real friends will remain friends forever".
So it's not just the tautology that "those who are friends will behave as friends do" but more the fact that you can rely on the fact that they will continue to behave that way in the future (possibly when you will need them).

{lo pendo ba pendo} seems good to me. {lo ca pendo ba pendo} seems too pedantic.
