But site is really sait, in IPA: /saɪt/, which is, btw, the exactly
pronunciation of bite.

And Luke, in American English the vowels in "pie" and "pipe" have
again the exactly same pronunciation.
(and there's the whole trouble of local varieties etc)

So yeah, I agree with Timo: it is not only terrible to use English for
that, but also almost useless.
