I can only answer(ish?) question 2 by providing the link to the help
section. It helped me, so .a'o. it does the same for you:

I would also like to thank you and the rest of the group for providing
both the Lojban version and the English(literal) version right below
it. I'm most often in the office and have little time to go to the
jbovlaste to translate or look-up each individual part. Putting both
versions allows us a cursory glance at what you've put as well as what
you've intended. In addition, it helps us become familiar with new
words we beginners don't necessarily come across. (Personally, I'm
still trying to find a Mac version of the gismu and cmavo
flashcards... *grr* But I guess I had it coming to me when I chose a
mac in the first place :)
