It can be useful. Also google's calendar (and pretty much any other
service) can be easily used for all sort of groupware needs.
It realy shouldn't be a big deal to manage the schedules, as long as
people are willing to take part in the schedule management.

People are not willing to take part in schedule management, especially
when they are volunteers and they can really take it or leave it.
That's why schedule management software fails.
I've been scheduling meetings in volunteer organizations and
get-togethers in noncommitted casual social groups every week or every
month for years, and I've learned that the solution doesn't just need
