If my understanding is correct, "commensalism" does not mean that the arrangement is commensal: it just means what it is. (I am not specialized in this area! Do not ask me how _exactly_ commensalism is defined.)
Etymologically "commensal" means co-tabler, one who shares the table. Commensalism is a symbiotic relationship where one of the species benefits and the other is unaffected, so one of the species is welcome to the table of the other, as it were.
