Re: [lojban] Re: Lojban for Beginners lesson 12 answers
I'm from St. Petersburg. ;-)
The dialects are pretty much the same in the two cities. Some trivial stuff with "o" v.s. "a" pronounciation only.
In Russian, St. Petersburg or ÐÐÐÐÑ ÐÐÑÐÑÐÑÑÐ would sound like... sankt pe-ter-BURK (notice no "s")
It's fairly straiforward with the English version.
And yeah, Moscow sounds like Mas-KVA.

English is (in Lojban transcription -- I can't
produce or read whatever these marks are) /seint
pitrsbrg/ more or less (this is almost surely not
a legitimate Lojban name). The Lojban name
should be as close as possible to the native
name, so, I gather /maskfa/ (with some consonant
on the end) or is it more /moskfa/ (with the
lower "aw" /o/)(sorry about not allowing /kv/,
which many languages have)? Is the native name
of the other place really Saint Petersburg or is
it Petrograd, which would introduce a whole other
set of issues?
And how widely variant are the dialects of the
two cities (we should follow the local one, I
suppose)?
