Perhaps we could introduce a special symbol to indicate
that what follows is a conventional *written* abbreviation
of something that has to be expanded when read aloud.
So something like "lo /ml 750 botpi" where "/ml" would
always be read as "milylitce be li". Using {ml} by itself
could be confused with the name {ml.}, and some other units
might cause even worse ambiguities.
