How about using a hyphen but at the beginning of the abbreviation?
That way it is easier to parse, and besides the hyphen at the end I
would reserve for splitting a word at the end of a line that continues
in the next line.
I would also include the "be li" as part of the abbreviation, so we
can say both {le karce cu -Mg 2} and {lo -Mg 2 cu dekto lo -kg 2},
without having to write any words between the unit and the number.
The abbreviations could not be used without a number, but
that is the normal usage in other languages too, we can write
"1 kg" but not really "a kg".
