[lojban] Re: lojban logo
Xah,
it is not a coincidence that a large number of Lojbanists are geeks either involved in computer technology, open source software in specific, or science fiction, or multiples of the above. I myself am involved with all of them.
Again, this is not for no reason. Lojban looks that way because it really is. That's what you're associated with. The logo accurately reflects that. As linguistics is a very soft science and the chances of learning anything about the Saphir-Whorf hypothesis through Lojban are slim to none, I feel there is very little science to be gained from it; neither is there a potential profession in it. My primary interest in Lojban as a hobby is for possible use in science fiction, and for others, it's a hobby for possible use in computing.
It's understandable and acceptable if you don't feel that you fit in with that. Use Lojban for whatever purposes you like, but others may as well. You have the right to your opinion that these demographics are know-nothing morons, but here we are. It's unlikely that the majority of us would all leave Lojban en-masse in order to keep you around. I'm sorry.
Although I like the logo, I'd be interested to see any alternative you would suggest. Other than going away, that's the only course of action consistent with your views.
Sincerely,
-epkat
