Re: history question

The Seraphim surely rejoiced when Logical Language Group spoke thus:

}Asssuming you aren't reading conlang - you've been silent too long for me
}to think otherwise.

Correct. I may resubscribe soon if it turns out I'm not that busy after all ---
that remains to be seen.

}Someone, perhaps you, gave me data at some point
}that suggested that Zamenhof's making public domain the new Esperanto might
}have been a response to the Volapu:k ownership disputes with Schleyer.
}Harlow now says that the latter took place morelike 1888-9, which is NOT what
}I remember. But all of my sources were heresay, mostly from you and Don
}if I recall.

Don is right, and I don't recall having said anything to you to give that
impression. Zamenhof was dissatisfied with Volapuk as he found it (though
proto-Esperanto had a lot of Volapukish treatment of lexicon), and wrote to
Schleyer a somewhat impertinent letter saying as much on publication of
Esperanto, but I'm not aware of Zamenhof timing publication to capitalise
on tension within Volapuk, or indeed of him being that involved in the
Volapuk movement (although a *lot* of early Esperanto luminaries were).
