Okay, thanks to everyone.  It pretty much confirms what I expected.
The problem comes into play when I start a line with a few space
characters.  Since I am "old school", I was taught that paragraphs are
to be indented.  So I do it as a matter of course.   Of course, there
is no reason that any mail program, remailer,etc. should have any
problem with any ASCII characters (at least from 32-254) and that
aren't arranged in some very-unlikely-to-come-up string denoting
control sequences.  But obviously, that's not the case with the lojban
lists.  I shall have to train myself not to put spaces in the front in
the future on mail here.

So, I think everyone should see this entire message, which started
with "Okay, thanks to everyone".
