This sounds absolutely horrifying by western standards, and this is
one of the many culture-clashes that I've noticed in trying to piece
together our culture-puzzle. In most 'western' cultures, independence
is strongly emphasised. Some people will be 'family people' and spend
a lot of time visiting relatives/parents, and some will not, but it's
very strongly emphasised that children should leave home as soon as
possible.

We were hoping to do this as well (numbers, symbols, colours, flowers,
etc.), but it's very difficult to come up with something precise
because so many cultures have conflicting views on things. The number
4 in Japan is considered bad luck because it is pronounced the same
way as the word 'death'. In English-speaking places, the number 13 is
considered bad luck, but 4 is not. I think it would be lovely to have
symbology in everything, but that seems near possible to draw from
other cultures, and we may have to start coming up with our own
independent system of symbology.

THIS sounds like something fantastic that we definitely want to use.

Again, this sounds horrifying by my cultural standards. I love my
mother, but I'd sooner strangle her to death than live with her my
entire life, and I know for a fact she feels the same way.

What about foods, colours, numbers, letters, types of friendships,
courting, relationships, clothing?
