ah, the problem is thus:
yahoo defaults to rich text mode, which puts the blue line on the side
and not at the top where the reply is intended to go. when one
attempts to bottom-post, it stretches that blue line automatically for
all newlines below the body of the original mail. this shows up as the
reply bracket in plaintext. please switch your mail to plaintext the
next time you reply.
