Re: [lojban] Lujvo coinage in a hypothetical Lojbanistan

I don't know how well the English analogy works, because English is not really built for new words to be regularly introduced. (I learned "nitpick" from use, true, but it's also a "standard" word; it already had many users when I was born, as did almost every other word in my lexicon.) I agree, though, that context helps, and I agree that it should be possible to define new lujvo in pure Lojban. I guess this refines my question a little bit: must lujvo be definable in pure Lojban? Not necessarily only with the gismu that are used to construct them, but in some other pure Lojban?

In the same way you do it in English, by using the new word in an
appropriate context.

You could have explained it in lojban, "darlu .ije lo nu darlu cu
fanza ki'u lo nu srana lo cmalu tcila" or whatever you had in mind.

But how did you learn what "nitpick" means in English? You just heard
it used in the right contexts often enough.
