I too have been batting this idea around on the lists for a long time.
The reason my version of this (LojbanQuest) never got very far was
that I was not a programmer at the time. I was just a graphic designer
and game designer. There was not enough workforce to make it a
reality, and those few who did put work into it were not as good at
usability, human factors, and game design as I am, so they made some
decisions that made the whole thing an uncomfortable experience to
use. It only would have caught on and become popular if I had
programmed it myself and retained control of creative decisions. Now
that I am a programmer, I'm too busy with trying to forge a new
career.
