It's unlikely that someone'd use the scientific name as a nickname. The common
name "latfekspa" is more likely to be so used.

I'm pretty sure it's a blend of "nightshade" and "hemlock". Neither has a
common name in Lojban that I know or could find. lo tamca .e lo patlu are
nightshades, and lo tanko .e lo kapsiku belong to the family. Maybe a
combination of "tanko" and some not-yet-assigned plant name.

Why ga'i?

Sounds like a blend of "grouse" and "gosling" to me.
