Personally, I feel that there is at least a hint of meaning left, but it's loose enough for it to allow all the freedom you want. Afterall, names are just pronouns in a way, they refer to a particular person or thing and it doesn't matter much what word you use to make that reference. I would not like to be called "selprami", because I chose "selpa'i" also for its sound and look, which I like very much. "selprami" appeals much less to me.
