Here's a modest suggestion for their name -- macyckin(i) . Calls to mind the falvor of the original, while having a relevant meaning, for surely Dorothy marvels at their appearance (and they are in turned awed by her).
How about {mancpre}?. It's a combination of your idea and the one currently in use. The first part sounds like "Munch" and the last part lets the reader know it's a person. I like it.
