Yeah you are, yeah you are. Switching to different articles was a big deal at the time more because we didn't politically know how to navigate changes to the language, rather than something about the change in particular. That particular change is extremely easy to ignore. Also there's other changes between the literary dialect you'll find in books and the way Lojban's spoken on the street that are far more substantial. But of course you'll get a lot closer to being able to communicate with Lojbanists by reading those old texts, as we all learned by reading those same books or by hearing echoes of them, and you'll find that we not only riff off that style a lot but even make lots of specific reference to those texts.
