As I have just noticed today, Slack does one other thing.  If your name
is mentioned in the discussion, Slack sends you a notice with the text
in context.

If you use slack, gleki, I'm surprised that you don't get flooded with
such notices, since your "name" is a common Lojban word.

Well, you can disable email notifications here: https://lojban.slack.com/account/notifications#email_notifications

For everyone else, it means that it should be easy to ask me (lojbab) a
question on IRC without my actually being on.  I likely won't answer
right away, and I am not sure how best to answer (if I answer on IRC
when the questioner is not on, s/he might not see the answer

You may mentioned their name so that they will get notificed via emai laass you just explained.

, so I
suspect that I would answer on Lojban List citing the question.).

but only if that person is subscribed to Lojban List which is not always true.

Someone should try this sometime.
