[lojban] Re: loqban alphabet for Lojban has been puplished

Huh. I don't see "loqban" anywhere on lojban.org. Is this writing system your invention, Tobias?

I understand that Lojban's Latin-based orthography seems a little weird at first. But to me, using q for the IPA /ʒ/ seems stranger than things like using the apostrophe for <h>. The apostrophe was an odd choice, but the light-weight character does fit use of {y'y} as a "semiconsonant" serving only as a vowel separator. Also, people who don't like Lojban's usage of {.} and {'} can already just omit the dot and replace the apostrophe with an h without causing any confusion. And I'm not sure spelling "Johan" as {.johan} instead of {.io'an.} or {iohan} is a significant gain. Rather than trying to "fix" Lojban's current official usage of the Latin alphabet, I'd be more interested in officially adopting either a new script or one of the original scripts listed on the Alternate Orthographies page... With the currently used scripts from natural languages like Latin and Cyrillic remaining acceptable transliterations.

The loqban writing system for Lojban has been published.

It uses 26 characters of ISO 10646 Basic Latin.

Diphthongs use <w> and <j> (aj, aw, ej, oj, ja, je, ji, jo, ju, wa, we, wi, wo, wu, jy, wy).

<h> is used in place of <'> for IPA /h/.
<q> is used for IPA /ʒ/, <c> for IPA /ʃ/ and <y> for IPA /ə/.

This writing system increases the agreement with IPA. It allows for a Lojban pronunciation of 1 000 000+ taxon names used in scientific naming of biota, without changing their spelling.

It can also be used to spell names like .johan zebastjan bax., .pjotr iljitc tcajkovski. and .dqenghis xan.
