It may depend on the context. "He has been dead 25 times already, so
he is not afraid of dying again." I agree that normally if someone has
been dead before, they probably still are.

In all likelyhood, yes.
But whatever the quirks in English, the Lojban "ba'o morsi" is the
state that results after the being dead is over.
