With {ti poi} I would agree that it's off, but if we were to rewrite {do djica tu'a ma poi klesi lo cidja} as {ma klesi lo cidja gi'e poi'i do djica tu'a ke'a} ("What is a kind of food and is such that you want [to eat] it?"), it seems to have the right semantics.

I agree that the expansion gives the right semantics, but is it the right expansion for "poi"?

(1)   lo cukta poi mi nau tcidu ke'a cu cinri

(2)   lo cukta cu nau se tcudu mi gi'e cinri

In (1) "lo cukta" can have as referents many books which I'm not now reading, in (2) it can only have as referents the book(s) that I'm now reading.

Is {ma} not much closer to {da} than it is to something like {ti}? The weird (but often useful) thing about {ma} is that it always has highest scope, so it should be able to parallel {da} (as in {su'o da poi broda cu brode} -> {su'o da broda gi'e brode}.

I think "ma" is closer to "lo co'e" than to "su'o da", since it doesn't really ask for anything that will make the bridi true, but for *the* (relevant) things that will make it true.
