Not really, it separates his last sentence from the "mu'o mi'e ranoritc".

But even if there was nothing after the ".i", it would still not be
downright wrong, just unusual.

The function of ".i" is to separate sentences, but the grammar allows
".i" without a preceding sentence or without a following sentence. In
fact ".i .i .i .i" is a grammatically correct text.
