[lojban-beginners] Re: Vocabulary

Thanks, Matt. I understand your situation and appreciate your reply. However, there must be other lojbanists who read this list and know the answers.

Next week, I'll send some questions on specific vocabulary. Hopefully, somebody other than you will be able to reply.

Andrew,

It's not intended to be secretive. There is a simple explanation: we
have a shortage of knowledgeable labor. Our involvement with beginners
sometimes takes a few days, and at better times we experience a flood
of responsiveness to beginners. We all lead busy lives and don't have
enough time to create official materials, call meetings, vote, speak
Lojban, or do anything else Lojbanic. Activity ebbs and flows, waxes
and wanes, and it took fifty years to get as far as we are now.

Plus, you may be surprised by this: Although I am a member of the
Board of Directors of the Logical Language Group, have been speaking
(not designing) the Lojban language for three years, I still don't
know the answers to your questions off the top of my head. I don't
design the language, expand on it, or invent new words. I never do any
of that stuff. I just learn the gismu and cmavo, use Lojban from time
to time, and try to spur additional activity from those who are better
at it than me.

So, here is the situation. I am currently putting together a local
science fiction and open source software convention (Penguicon) which
looks to be getting almost a thousand attendees this year. It will
take place in one week and my phones, instant messengers, and emails
have been shouting for me non-stop. I also recently started a new job
and am looking for a second part-time employment. So my involvement in
Lojban has been on an all-time downswing. Others are even less active
than normal because I'm not stirring up activity as much as I usually
do.

I apologize because I love interacting with new people in the Lojban
community, but I have been too busy to answer all your questions in
the depth that I would like. Soon this will improve. It is a temporary
phase and not normal. Thanks for your patience.
