Well, the modals cover all kinds of shades of meaning (and you can
make your own as well with the fi'o construction), but yes, I agree it's
rather hard to skim down that list in the CLL (chapter 9, section 17) to
figure out what you want. But for example, you could have wanted to use
mu'i here ("with the motive of...") (which I have probably been my
personal 1st choice, but yours was probably better) or ja'e ("which
results in..."), heck, maybe even "fi'o tertcu" ("needed for purpose"),
etc.

Oh, I forgot to add this to my e-mail of a few minutes ago.

It took me a long time to find {tezu'e}. It's not there in Lojban For
Beginners and even in the CCL it barely merits a mention. Surely,
".....in order to...." and "...for the purpose of..." are used
frequently in all languages. Am I missing something?

{ti'u} is normally used with a number, such as {ti'u li so [pe lo
cerni]}; I'd
say {ca lo cerni}.

{cu} is not necessary after {mi}, but is grammatical.

{ki'u} has to be either {iki'ubo} or {ki'u lo nu}.

Instead of {mi bilga lenu klama}, I'd say {ei mi klama}.
