First question:
Would this usage of {teta'i} convey the meaning {with her hands in
her pockets}?

Not sure about meaning, but to get the grammar to hold up, you need a
{to} and {cu}:
le ninmu cu cadzu teta'i to le xance cu se vasru le kosta daski
The {cu} keeps you from getting {le xance se vasru} as a single
sumti. Almost any time the x1 isn't from selma'o KOhA, you will need
a {cu} or other terminator before the selbri.
The {to} makes {teta'i} take the whole thing as an argument (there's
a proper term to use instead of "argument", but I'm not sure what it
is). It's essentially just a parenthesis; without it the parser
complains.
