For example, giving you a bicycle might be my obligation,
my being obliged to give you a bicycle is not my obligation.

Oh, THAT is the point. I believe that there is an important concept of
"my being obliged to give you a bicycle", whether or not it is
expressed by English word "obligation". And "giving you a bicycle" is,
er, the content, the result of dereferincing, the thing pointed by the
thing that I, by the lack of better word, call "obligation".
