The rafsi 'mer' stands for 'merko'.

As for "la kantrineim" vs. "la rafygug" vs. "le gismu", I think that "le
rafygu'e" is preferable to all of them, because unlike the "la" ones it
has some inherent meaning, and unlike "le gismu" it refers specifically
to the country.
