I don't know who reacted negatively to that (probably me), but they
were wrong.

We would, of course, prefer that people give money to the LLG as
they are able (and we *do* spend money, for example on paying for
people to come to LogFest, and some day to print more books),
whether in the form of buying books or some other way.

Regardles, though, you are entirely within your rights to print out
copies of things we make freely available online and, in the case of
the CLL at least (I'd have to check about WiL, and I have no idea
about LfB) are welcome to modify it, as long as you make clear your
modifications are official (see other mail for more about this).

If you somehow made a big business of *selling* them to other
people, without giving any money back to the LLG, there'd be some
legitimate crankyness, but no-one's even suggested that.  :)
