Okay, but it is the final part of the compound that is the most salient part.

I'm not sure I've understood that sentence correctly.

  zoi .gy. Yumpto .gy. srana lo bangu be lo merko

or

  zoi .gy. Yumpto .gy. merko lo ka bangu

Right, but these words are meant to replace the cultural gismu such as merko. (I know I used it too. I suppose I should've said {zo'oi Yumpto matybau la.amerikan.})

or, if I make some assumptions about what “Yumpto” is (I don't know what it is, but a web search suggests that the following sentence is true):

  zoi .gy. Yumpto .gy. valsi fi lo glibau be lo merko

Yes. It's slang. As in, "I'm going to the movies. Yumpto? (You want to?)"
