  Count me among the ones who would have used "lo'e" here, but I don't have a problem with the style of selpa'i ("selpa'i's" just looked too ridiculous to type ;-) )

I'm not even sure what "being collectively smaller" is supposed to mean, really.

I know it's out of fashion, but this seems to be a perfectly good place to use {lo'e}.
