As for a learning method, I'd suggest seeing if you can get the AssimI'm stuff. Last time I checked the company was still producing these and provide a quick way to get the sound of the language and many basic words with corresponding grammar into your memory. There is also an online program where the basic levels of most language, including Spanish called LIVEMOCHA. It also has ways to record sound files so you can hear yourself and a setup for written and spoken exchanges with natural speakers. it is like Rosetta Stone in many ways, except definitely not in price.
